David Letterman’s Mother, Dorothy Mengering, Has Died

Dorothy Mengering, David Letterman’s beloved Mother has died.  She was 95.

You might remember Dorothy appearing on Late Night with David Letterman, playing herself of course.

She was simply known on the show as “Dave’s Mom”. She was everyone’s Grandma — white-haired, charming and wouldn’t flinch about giving Dave a little guff in her sweet but diminutive way.

Dorothy was a published cookbook author and an occasional participant in reading Dave’s famous Top 10 Lists on the show. The Late Show with David Letterman went off the air in May of 2015 after Dave announced his retirement.
