Places to Adopt a Pet in the Coachella Valley/Palm Springs Area

I love dogs, cats, and all animals.  I am always involved in one way or another with helping homeless pets find good forever homes.

Here in the Coachella Valley we are blessed to have a huge community effort in helping rescue animals.  Here’s five agencies to consider when adopting a pet in no particular order.

1. Loving All Animals, Palm Desert

This is such an amazing organization, it is difficult to put in words all that they do.  Loving All Animals is not a shelter; instead they are a group of volunteers who fundraise and have adoption events to find homes for pets in need.

2. Animal Samaritans, Thousand Palms

Animal Samaritans is a no-kill shelter that also offers a veterinarian staff and clinic providing quality and affordable pet care. If you are looking to rescue a dog or cat, go on up and take a look at all the beautiful animals waiting to go home with you!

3. Palm Springs Animal Shelter, Palm Springs

Again, awesome! Beautiful facility, lovely caring people, full time staff with a vet clinic. They do pet adoption events and offer dogs and cats for adoption that all come vaccinated, spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and more.  If you want to take a look a the pets up for adoption today go here.

4. The Coachella Valley City/County Animal Shelter, County Wide

This is a government run shelter.  It provides complete animal services, including shelter and adoption for the unincorporated areas of Riverside County. Here is the place to go to really “rescue” a pet.  This is a “kill” shelter.  We all know what that means.  They are understaffed and need lots of help, so if you want to volunteer somewhere, this would be a good opportunity for you.

5. Living Free Animal Sanctuary, Mountain Center

Located up in the mountains above Palm Springs near Idyllwild,  this group rescues, rehabilitates and finds permanent homes for healthy cats and dogs that were scheduled for shelter euthanasia.   They are also developing education, outreach and awareness initiatives to help end the needless suffering for pets.  This is an extraordinary group. Located off Highway 74 in the San Jacinto Mountains, 10 minutes from Idyllwild, 45 minutes from the Desert Cities.  Take a look here.
